About Me
Welcome to The Well-Read Mrs.
I'm so glad you're here.
If you've ever wondered how some families seem to cultivate a love of learning, build impressive home libraries, or raise children who genuinely enjoy reading, you're in the right place.
I will start by stating the obvious; our family isn't perfect. We don't spend every day gathered around a stack of classic novels, and we certainly don't have all the answers. What we do have is a deep love of reading and a belief that reading has the power to transform lives.
Here at The Well-Read Mrs., you'll find book reviews, literature-inspired learning ideas, educational resources, and honest reflections on raising children in a wonderfully chaotic neurodiverse household.
Whether you're looking for your next great read, searching for books to spark your child's curiosity, or simply hoping to create a more knowledge-rich home, I hope you'll find something helpful here.
Who I Am
I'm a wife, mother, reader, reviewer, and lifelong learner.
Like many book lovers, I have always believed that books can take us places we've never been, introduce us to people we'll never meet, and teach us lessons we'll carry for a lifetime.
I'm also raising a twice-exceptional chid, as well as a child with a rare genetic disorder. This journey has challenged me, humbled me, and inspired me to think differently about learning, education, and what it means to nurture a child's unique strengths.
Our family embraces a blend of literature-based learning, classical influences, curiosity-driven exploration, and plenty of real-life experiences. While we don't homeschool full-time, we believe learning doesn't stop when the school day ends.
Some of our best educational moments have started with a great book.
Why I Read
I read because books have shaped who I am.
Far before the instant gratification of the internet, books have introduced me to new ideas, challenged my assumptions, comforted me during difficult seasons, and reminded me that there is always more to learn.
I read fiction because stories help us understand ourselves and others.
I read nonfiction because I am endlessly curious.
I read children's literature because some of life's greatest truths are often found in books written for young readers.
Most of all, I read because I want my children to see that learning isn't something we finish once our official schooling ends, it's something we continue throughout our lives.
Why Literature Matters
In a world filled with endless distractions, literature invites us to slow down.
Great books help us develop empathy, curiosity, resilience, imagination, and critical thinking.
A well-chosen story can spark an interest in history, science, mythology, nature, art, or culture. One book can inspire weeks of conversation, exploration, and discovery.
That's why you'll find more than just book reviews here.
You'll also find ideas for literature-based learning, recommendations for curious readers, educational resources, and ways to build a home where learning feels natural and enjoyable.
Because I believe books aren't just entertainment.
They're tools for building curious minds.
Some of My Favorite Books
While my reading tastes are wide-ranging, I tend to gravitate toward:
Fantasy that creates immersive worlds and unforgettable characters
Self-help books that encourage personal growth
Children's literature that respects young readers
Middle-grade novels that spark imagination and curiosity
Books that inspire meaningful conversations
You'll find reviews of new releases, overlooked gems, classics, children's books, nonfiction, fantasy, and everything in between.
If a book teaches, inspires, entertains, or makes me think, there's a good chance you'll find it featured here.
Our Family Philosophy
Our family believes that curiosity matters more than perfection.
You don't need to be a genius to become a lifelong learner.
You don't need expensive programs to build a knowledge-rich home.
You don't need a perfect plan to raise readers.
You simply need opportunities to wonder, explore, ask questions, and discover.
Books are one of the most accessible ways to do that.
My hope is that The Well-Read Mrs. encourages families to share stories together, pursue interests deeply, and create learning experiences that feel meaningful and attainable.
Because every child deserves the opportunity to become a curious, capable learner.
And every family can begin with a good book.
